Relaxing in Bomerano, Italy
Today's itinerary was open for doing anything on our own (at our own dime). Some tour mates in our highlights group decided to go to Sorento. A few of us considered going to Naples, I would have loved to visit the museum where most of the major artifacts excavated from Pompeii and Herculaneum were located. However it was hot, travel time would have taken a few hours of the day. Plus I was exhausted from the daily tours. So a small group of us (the same tour mates who have bonded), decided to relax in Bomerano, the village where the hotel was located. In the morning, before it got too hot (yes, I've mentioned the heat several times now), we took a walk to catch the view from hill top nearby. It was a bit hazy but we enjoyed the exercise.
Following that Leslie, a tour mate, and I walked to town to see what we can get for lunch. I also wanted to buy a fanny pack since I have forgotten to bring one and needed it to hold my phone when we go on the one hike that was in the itinerary. It was a very small town, but had some cute stores, especially one for hiking. It appears that Bomerano/Agerola is the start of the very popular Path of the Gods hiking trail. We found a nice outdoor table under a large umbrella where we poeple watched and shared a light lunch. We had bruschetta with different toppings (to die for) and appetizers to go with beer and wine.
In the afternoon, we hanged around the pool, reading and chatting. I had way too many limoncello spritz, now my favorite cocktail, especially made by the hotel's bartender at the pool. It's made from lemoncello, proseco and club soda, garnished with candied lemon. What made this one special was the dollop of limone granita (lemon sorbet) on it. So very refreshing on a hot day! And it was a very reasonable 7 euro per glass.
