Winnipeg, Canada

We checked out of our campsite in the morning and headed for the Pembina-Emerson crossing at the border between the US and Canada, 1.5 hours away. At Pembina, we filled up our minivans since gas was a lot more expensive in Canada. The crossing was pretty easy, there was little traffic entering Canada at this crossing. We had submitted our personal details and COVID-19 vaccination paperwork via the phone app ArriveCAN 3 days ago, so the officer in the booth just asked a couple of questions and waved me through. The Manitoba welcome center was closed but the restrooms were open. The first stop for my brother and his wife (who are Canadians and used to live in Ontario) was Tim Horton's for donuts. I set my spedometer to metric so that I can track my driving speed in kilometers.
We wanted to have lunch in Winnipeg (about 1.5 hours away), and found a highly rated dim sum restaurant in town. Co-incidentally, our niece and her fiance (whose wedding was the reason for this trip) were also in town and decided to join us at the restaurant. We ordered way too many dim sum plates, and had a very nice and leisurely lunch. I wish I remembered to take a photo!

After lunch, we stopped at a Safeway to buy groceries for our the next two nights of camping. Then it was a 2 hour drive to the Hecla-Grindstone Provincial Park and the Lake Winnipeg area where the wedding was to be held.
