Biloxi, MS

There was not much to do within Davis Bayou Campground, and we wanted a change of scenery from marshes, hiking trails, trees and parkland. So we drove over to Biloxi which is located on the Gulf of Mexico and known for it casinos. We parked in a RV lot across from Harrah's Casino, then took a long walk from the Gulf side to the bay/lake side, hoping to run into downtown. We passed a Vietnamese Catholic church right next to a Buddhist temple, and checked out a French bakery with a colorful mural next to its outdoor tables. The area was mostly residential, although we passed what looked like a seafood processing plant near the bay.
Somewhat disappointed with the lack of other interesting sights, we decided to go further down the road. We parked across from the Hard Rock Casino, then walked inland. This time we found downtown, i.e. City Hall, some commercial/historical buildings and restaurants, but the streets were rather empty of people although it was a workday.
After getting back to our vehicles, Nadine decided to explore Ocean Springs near our campground while I checked out the casinos. The Hard Rock Casino and Hotel was interesting, with its artfully arranged display of guitars, costumes and other rock and roll memorabilia. The lobby of the hotel and casino decor gave a nod to the upcoming Chinese New Year.
Next, I walked over to Beau Rivage next door. This hotel and casino was much bigger and very well decorated. I explored the lobby all decked out for Chinese New Year, the shops and restaurants as well as the casino (no, I not play). I ended up sitting in the beautiful Atrium Cafe (second photo below), ordered a bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo (meh) and updated my blog.
