On to Kyoto

We checked out of the Ryogoku View Hotel this morning. After our experience with crowded trains, it would be difficult to get to Tokyo Station with our suitcases by train. Instead, we flagged a taxi and was able to show the driver (who did not speak English) that we wanted to go to the Shinkansen terminal at Tokyo Station. The taxi fare was quite reasonable, the ride quick and relaxing. I had already bought tickets for the Shinkansesn to Kyoto online so we did not have to wait in line (had to pay a service fee). We arrived at the Tokyo Station early to buy some ekiben (boxed lunches) to eat on the train.
I booked the Pocket Hotel in Kyoto for its affordable rate and positive reviews. We had a tiny room with bunk beds and communal bathroom. The place is more like an upscale hostel, very clean and informal. A big plus: they had washer and dryers in the bathroom, very convenient (photo below). I wish I had taken photos of the hotel's exterior.
The hotel was a short walk to the Nishiki Market. It was an amazing street, full of shops selling all types of food and drink; lots of tourists.
On the way back I walked along Teramachi Street and took photos of interesting buildings and shops. Bought some food to eat in the hotel.
