Itch-Kep-Pe City Park Campground, Columbus, MT
Had two nights to kill before picking up Debi who was flying into Bozeman from Fort Lauderdale to join me in this part of the journey. Found a free campground, first come first served,in the town of Columbus, MT, between Billings and Bozeman. Drove around, most of the decent sites were taken. A veteran saw me driving past the second time around and pointed me to the other part of campground, not easily see from a turn off at the end of the first loop. Drove on a dusty lane, past a golf course, and there was the second half of the campground, lots of sites available.
Sites were very nice, had some shade but no amenities other than a vault toilet. The main path turned dusty and noisy when kids drove around in ATVs but the area was otherwise quiet and spacious. Has good cell coverage, used time to do some research and revise itinerary after our upcoming stays in Gardiner and Yellowstone. National Park.
The Bozeman airport was easy to get to; Debi arrived on time and we went to a cafe to have coffee and to catch up. Then off to Walmart for grocery shopping before checking in to our airbnb cabin in Gardiner. We decided to splurge and stay in a 2-bedroom cabin for 4 nights since Nadine's friend was also joining us, driving in from Colorado. There would be four of us, two RVs and a jeep.
